Mexico Software Developer Salaries 2026: What US Companies Actually Pay

Salary data for Mexican software engineers is difficult to find, often outdated, and almost always defined inconsistently. This guide defines three distinct models — direct hire gross salary, agency rate, and PEO monthly cost — and provides 2026 market data for each.

Why the model matters

Direct hire gross salary: the number on the payslip, in pesos — does not include IMSS, vacation premium, PTU, or Christmas bonus. Total employer cost is typically 35 to 45 percent above gross salary. Agency rate (USD/hour): all-in, including the engineer's compensation, benefits, employer contributions, and the agency's margin. PEO/full-time model (USD/month): the PEO employs the engineer on your behalf, fully compliant, one invoice per month.

Direct hire gross salary ranges (Mexico, 2026)

Junior (1-3 years): MXN $20,000-35,000/month. Mid-level (3-6 years): MXN $40,000-70,000/month. Senior (6-10 years): MXN $70,000-130,000/month. Staff/Principal (10+ years): MXN $130,000-200,000/month.

Agency rates (USD/hour)

Mid-level: $45-65/hour. Senior: $65-95/hour. Staff/Principal: $85-120/hour.

PEO/full-time model (USD/month, all-in)

Mid-level: $4,000-6,000/month. Senior: $5,500-9,000/month. Staff: $8,000-14,000/month.

Monterrey vs. Mexico City vs. Guadalajara

Monterrey: 5 to 15 percent premium for senior engineers, strongest talent pool for US-facing product companies. Mexico City: largest absolute talent pool, comparable rates. Guadalajara: competitive rates, stronger for enterprise IT roles.
